Q: Can we relate to the Star Trek episode 45 years later?
A: We can relate to some aspects of the Star Trek episode this many years later. Their forms of comunication[communicators, earpieces, etc.] are much like our cell phones and Bluetooth's of today. In the episode, Capitan Kirk and Spock were talking to someone through a screen. They could see him and hear him and vise versa. That idea was just like today's 'Skyping'. Other things though, like, 'beaming' to other places is physically impossible as of now.
Q: Was it Gene Roddenberry's creative imagination that gave scientists ideas for new technology or was it the existing technology that influenced Roddenberry?
A: Frankly, I can't believe that scientists were getting ideas for new technology from some fake TV show, int he 60's. I think that Gene Roddenberry just had a very creative imagination and guessed at what kind of technology our civilation would have hundreds of years from then.

I agree with you when you say that the communicators are like our cellphones of today. Roddenberry was dreaming the technology of today
ReplyDeleteI don't think scientists got there ideas completely from the TV show, but I think some of it could have come from the show. Many things are created by accident.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I don't agree with Brendon. I have a very strong opinion about science and I don't think that any scientist sits down and says Hey! that would be nifty to have. No. It doesn't happen like that. I like your answers and I think that we think the same. :)
ReplyDeleteI think all of this stuff is very debatable. I think that some scientists create gadgets by accident, some scientists get their ideas from readings or shows, and some ideas are just randomly thought of from everyday inconveniences. However, I like this post and agree with a lot of what you said.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Mr. Seay always say that we don't ever think up something which is entirely new in the realm of technology. It's purpose will never change.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on that one 100%. Why would a scientist waste their time watching a T.V. show to help them invent modern technology. I'm pretty sure a castle being in the clouds will never be a possible invention.
ReplyDeleteI also think that a lot of the inventions are thought up from sci fi guys. Now although i think that i do agree with you on your point of scientists make their own stuff, but still.
